A bachelor's degree, or its equivalent, from a recognized institution of higher education is required of applicants to the Graduate School–New Brunswick. An average of B or better in previous academic work is expected. Additional evidence of potential for graduate study must be demonstrated by letters of recommendation and by scores on the Graduate Record Examination, which all programs require. Applicants should refer to the current application form and instructions for the specific requirements and prerequisites of each program. The applicant's character, integrity, and fitness to practice a particular profession also may be considered in the admissions process. Admission is competitive, and some applicants who meet or surpass minimum requirements may be denied acceptance. Admission is recommended by the faculty of the graduate program that a student seeks to enter, and it must be approved by the dean of the Graduate School–New Brunswick or the dean's representative.
