The Laboratory for Nanostructured Materials Research (LNMR) is supported through federally funded research programs such as the Office of Naval Research and by industry such as Exxon Mobil, among others. The LNMR's mission is to support forefront research in advanced materials areas and to promote industry-university interactions. Research areas include advanced analysis of nanostructured materials by synchrotron X-ray probes. Active research areas of interest include, but are not limited to, multiscale 3-D strain and phase mapping of engineering materials, stress-corrosion cracking phenomena, mechanical behavior of multiphase nanostructured coatings, fatigue fracture in engineering alloys, and behavior of nanomaterials under high pressure and temperatures. The laboratory's research endeavors also have a strong theoretical component. The members of the LNMR have developed a unique energy dispersive synchrotron X-ray diffraction method and metrology, and they have a commanding position in the field of multiscale 3-D phase and strain mapping in advanced engineering materials.
