The Waksman Institute of Microbiology (WIM) is an internationally recognized center of excellence in molecular genetics. Using microbe, plant, and animal genetic models, members of the institute are studying gene expression and signal transduction controlled by a number of environmental and developmental stimuli. A new focus on structural and computational biology complements these areas of interest. Nineteen laboratories, arranged around four groups (microbial, plant, developmental genetics, and structural biology) and equipped with state-of-the-art equipment, provide graduate students the opportunity to learn the latest techniques in molecular genetics. In addition, the Waksman Institute houses the Molecular Biology Computing Lab.
