Each program is expected to have established procedures for
monitoring annually the progress of all students registered in the
particular program. Each doctoral program has a formal procedure to
review students who have completed the equivalent of approximately one
year of full-time study and to decide whether they may continue toward
the doctorate. This procedure may be linked to the master's degree or
to the qualifying examination, or may be independent of either. In no
case should it be postponed beyond the equivalent of one and one-half
years of full-time study toward the degree. In connection with this
procedure, faculty in a position to comment on the student's
performance and progress are asked to do so by the graduate director or
a designate. The program will determine which faculty will participate in the review.
