Program Completion Requirements


Students must have

  • earned a baccalaureate degree with an appropriate major for area of certification;
  • submitted a portfolio/writing requirement or pass a comprehensive examination if required by their program;
  • satisfied the General Education Distribution;
  • completed 90 credits in liberal arts (these credits can include courses in the major but cannot include courses in professional education and/or other vocationally oriented course work (accounting, engineering, etc.)); no School 05 or School 15 courses may be included;
  • satisfied the physiology and hygiene requirement (during their internship semester, students must either attend a series of seminars addressing issues of human physiology, hygiene, and substance abuse or must pass the official NJ Dept. of Education examination on these topics); and
  • a cumulative grade point average of 2.75 in the master's degree. 

NOTE: Courses used to satisfy the General Education Distribution and 90 credits in liberal arts MUST be on a transcript from a regionally accredited four-year college or university.
