Realizing the extant interest in
international development policy and planning of an outstanding number of
students and faculty members in the Bloustein School of Planning and Public
Policy and in the larger Rutgers community, the International Development
Interest Group (IDIG), was established in early 2009 and in 2010 was
recognized as a graduate student Aassociation. IDIG functions as a forum for the
exchange of ideas and information, as well as a platform for collaborative work
around various themes and geographies of relevance in planning and policy work
in low- and middle-income countries. Meetings are held every month, in addition
to IDIG-hosted events, to discuss the different aspects of our activities,
including the exploration of networks and projects with existing centers,
departments, and organizations at Rutgers and with partner institutions around
the globe. IDIG membership interests include (but are not exclusive to) the
following sectors or themes within international development policymaking and
planning: community development, energy, environmental vulnerabilities,
financial mobilization, fiscal policy, health care and hygiene, housing,
international trade, labor management, water, sanitation and waste management,
political economy of development, postconflict planning, public administration,
technology, tourism, transportation, and women's studies.
