Program Requirements

Certification program admission requires:

1. An overall grade-point average (GPA) of 2.80 or better (4.0 representing A), as evidenced through a copy of most recent Rutgers–Camden transcript. A grade of C or better is required for all courses on the advisement sheet(s). Postbaccalaureate students should consult an institute adviser about this requirement.

2. Evidence of the following minimum scores on the Praxis I: Academic Skills Assessments (PPSTŪ): Reading, 177; Writing, 177; Mathematics, 175

Postbaccalaureate students must also provide an official transcript from the undergraduate institution.

Students who obtained a baccalaureate degree from Rutgers need to apply for reenrollment through the Office of Academic Advising, not the admissions office. Students who obtained a baccalaureate degree from another institution must apply through the admissions office and obtain a transcript evaluation of previous courses.

Additional information

The overall GPA is checked each semester and must remain at a 2.8 or better throughout the student's tenure in the program. Additionally, the major/liberal arts GPA must also be at the 2.8 level or better. Students are notified on an individual basis if the GPA drops.

For all certification candidates, student teaching must be completed in the student's last semester and all courses for the degree and on the certification advisement sheet(s) must be completed prior to the student teaching semester. Field experience applications are due one year in advance of the desired student teaching semester. The Practica are completed in the two semesters immediately prior to student teaching.
