Admission

Applications are available online through the Office of Graduate and Professional Admissions at https://gradstudy.rutgers.edu.

Qualifications

Applicants should hold a master of social work (M.S.W.) degree or a related discipline. Students with an M.S.W. are allowed to transfer 18 credits toward the Ph.D. upon completion of 12 credits of graduate-level coursework in the doctoral program with grades of B or better. Transfer credits from other master's degree programs are evaluated on a case-by-case basis. 

A combined M.S.W./Ph.D. program is available to students admitted to Rutgers' master of social work program. Information regarding application to the combined program can be found at https://socialwork.rutgers.edu/admissions/phd-admissions/combined-mswphd-program.
