The Center for
Prevention Science was established in 2016 with a focus on community-level
approaches to prevention. Our mission is to develop and disseminate knowledge
through research that builds the capacity of community-based organizations to
create changes in public policy or environmental conditions that cause social
and health disparities.
The center has
opened its doors to new opportunities and growth. Although much of the
center's work has focused on substance abuse prevention, research in other
areas of prevention has also been conducted (e.g., the prevention of sexual
assault; child abuse and neglect). Research areas of the center include
community organizing, substance abuse prevention, heath disparities, program
evaluation, as well as empowerment theory and measurement.
