Applications are available online through the Office of Graduate Admissions at http://gradstudy.rutgers.edu.
Applications should be completed and returned with supporting documents according to the instructions provided with the forms. A complete application consists of
- the online application;
- three letters of recommendation;
- official transcripts of previous academic work;
- personal statement or essay;
- GRE test scores, taken within three years of application date; and
- a nonrefundable application fee.
Qualifications
Applicants should hold a master of social work (M.S.W.) degree or a closely related master's degree. Students with an M.S.W. are allowed to transfer 18 credits toward the Ph.D. upon completion of 12 credits of graduate-level coursework in the doctoral program with grades of B or better. Transfer credits from other master's degree programs are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.
A combined M.S.W./Ph.D. program is available to students admitted to Rutgers' Master of Social Work program. Information regarding application to the combined program can be found at http://socialwork.rutgers.edu/phd/combinedprogram.html.
