Competencies


Master of Public Health (M.P.H.) Competencies - Urban Public Health 

Each concentration identifies competencies for each degree offered. These competencies reflect the full range of knowledge, skills, and other attributes that a student will acquire as a result of completing the requirements for a particular degree.

Upon graduation, a student completing the M.P.H. curriculum in urban public health will be able to:

  • analyze the role of individual, biological, social, economic, political, and environmental factors that influence the health status of urban populations;
  • use relevant sources (including public health literature and qualitative and quantitative data) to identify the health status and disparities in urban populations and communities;
  • examine the characteristics, unique health challenges, and opportunities of urban populations and communities;
  • determine the strengths and limitations of different theories and modern paradigms to an urban public health issue;
  • evaluate the scientific evidence related to urban public health issues; and
  • apply methods to develop and assess programs and strategies that protect or endanger the health and well-being of urban populations.
