Volunteer Opportunities in Community Engaged Service (V.O.I.C.E.S.)

The mission of Volunteer Opportunities in Community Engaged Service (V.O.I.C.E.S.) is to provide a forum for public health students, faculty, and staff to reach out to their community by organizing and participating in volunteer community service projects with a public health focus. V.O.I.C.E.S. strives to provide opportunities for students to gain practical public health experience, interact with other students with similar interests, and incorporate social responsibility into their academic experience. V.O.I.C.E.S. enables the students of the Rutgers School of Public Health to have a positive impact on the community in which they live, both locally and globally. There are V.O.I.C.E.S. student groups at each School of Public Health location.

Over the course of the year, students meet to plan and implement a variety of community service initiatives working together with many community groups throughout New Jersey including Elijah's Promise Soup Kitchen and Christ Church Food Pantry in New Brunswick, Wynona's House in Newark, Coastal Habitat for Humanity in South Jersey, and Cathedral Kitchen and Project Hope in Camden. Community service projects have included development of community health workshops on topics such as asthma, HIV/AIDS, and nutrition; food and clothing drives and hunger awareness projects; and a healthy eating cookbook. For more information about V.O.I.C.E.S. initiatives go to sph.rutgers.edu/service/voices/index.html.
