Competencies


M.P.H. Competencies - Department of Urban Health Administration

Each department identifies competencies for each degree offered. These competencies reflect the full range of knowledge, skills, and other attributes that a student will acquire as a result of completing the requirements for a particular degree.

Upon graduation, a student completing the M.P.H. curriculum in urban health administration will be able to:

  • identify the main issues that affect the organization, financing, and delivery of health services, and public health systems in urban communities, especially among disadvantaged populations;
  • apply quality improvement principles and methods to enhance health outcomes and the performance and productivity of health organizations;
  • apply leadership skills to health partnerships, coalition building, and nonprofit organizations;
  • demonstrate skills in program planning, development, and evaluation in organizational and urban community settings;
  • utilize cultural sensitivity, budgeting, human resource management, and program development skills in health care, nonprofit, and public service settings; and
  • apply the fundamental elements of health service research to the analysis of psychosocial, economic, and clinical outcomes.
