Message from the Dean

It is with great pleasure that I introduce you to the School of Public Affairs and Administration (SPAA) at Rutgers University–Newark, a highly recognized educational leader in this increasingly important area of study.

Founded in 2006, Rutgers SPAA is an outgrowth of several decades of accomplishments by the Graduate Department of Public Administration at Rutgers University–Newark. At its core, SPAA seeks to provide service to governments and citizens by developing approaches to public affairs that are performance-driven: effective, efficient, equitable, and accountable. Our programs are continually revised to reflect the changing nature of the field.

We are extraordinarily proud of the success of our alumni. Our master's graduates consistently achieve positions of high responsibility at the federal, state, and local levels and in nonprofit organizations. Our doctoral graduates are teaching and gaining tenure at dozens of universities throughout the United States and internationally.

We have spearheaded many successful initiatives to develop strong knowledge and practice here in Newark, in the State of New Jersey, throughout the country, and around the globe. Our faculty, alumni, and students are leaders in the American Society for Public Administration (ASPA) and other professional organizations.

We welcome your inquiries, your applications, and your collaborations in helping us develop an even stronger school.

Sincerely yours,

Dr. Marc Holzer

Founding Dean and Board of Governors Distinguished Professor
