It is with great pleasure that I introduce to you the School of Public Affairs and Administration (SPAA) at Rutgers-Newark. Founded in 2006, Rutgers SPAA is an outgrowth of the Graduate Department of Public Administration, a recognized educational leader in this increasingly important area of study.
Mission: At its core, Rutgers SPAA seeks to provide service to governments and citizens by developing approaches to public affairs that are performance-driven: effective, efficient, equitable, and accountable. Our programs are continually revised to reflect the changing nature of the field. For example, recent additions to the curriculum include courses on egovernment and digital democracy. We also are initiating several online certificate programs.
We are extraordinarily proud of the success of our alumni. Our master's graduates consistently achieve positions of high responsibility at the federal, state, and local levels as well as internationally and at a variety of nonprofit organizations. Our doctoral graduates are gaining tenure at dozens of universities throughout the United States and abroad.
We have spearheaded successful initiatives to develop strong knowledge and practice here in Newark, in the state of New Jersey, throughout the country, and around the globe. Additionally, our faculty, alumni, and students are leaders in the American Society for Public Administration and other professional organizations.
The following pages further outline our philosophies and programs. You will read about our distinguished faculty, our fascinating and diverse research projects, and our many contributions to the discipline of public affairs and administration. We welcome your inquiries, your applications, and your collaborations in helping us develop an even stronger school.
Sincerely yours,
Dr. Marc Holzer
