Health Information Management, M.S.

Health Information Management Profession

The health information professional is a member of the health care management team responsible for managing health data and health information systems with the ultimate goal of supporting clinical, administrative, financial, and compliance activities, general operations, and decision-making process. Health information professionals acquire, analyze, and protect health data, monitor and assure their integrity, and manage access and use of health data in compliance with regulatory requirements.

Career opportunities for health information professionals with a master's degree in health information management (HIM) include but are not limited to: information governance, revenue cycle management, data analytics, health care compliance, health data privacy and security, clinical informatics, informatics research, data integrity analyst, and more. Graduates of this program may pursue career growth opportunities in hospitals, other health care settings, as well as in health data management related services. Graduates may also teach in health information management programs and prepare to further their education toward a doctoral degree.
