When available, master's students have the option to take a 3-credit fieldwork course (27:202:556) after completing at least two required courses (6 credits). Nondegree students may not enroll in the fieldwork course. The fieldwork course counts as an elective and may be included in any self-declared concentration coursework plan. Only one fieldwork course may be taken during the master of arts (M.A.) program. Students should work with the SCJ Director of Community Outreach to identify an appropriate fieldwork placement (Lori Scott-Pickens, phone: 973-353-3403, email:
lpickens@scj.rutgers.edu).
SCJ will also identify and develop relevant placement opportunities.
During the semester prior to enrollment in the fieldwork course, interested students must obtain the approval of the M.A. program drector to supervise their fieldwork placement. Students will work with the SCJ Director of Community Outreach and the SCJ Office of Academic Programs and Student Services to complete all necessary paperwork. Students will receive an M.A. fieldwork packet. This packet includes the agreement between SCJ and the fieldwork placement agency, as well as details on the evaluation parameters for the course.
