The master of communication and media (M.C.M.)
degree program requires the successful completion of a minimum of 36 credits. This
includes completion of:
- A five-course core (15
credits)
- Seven elective courses (21
credits)
The M.C.M. degree typically requires three
semesters of full-time study: 12 credits per semester is the maximum course load.
Study is frequently pursued on a part-time basis. The degree can be accelerated
by taking Winter or Summer Session courses.
Up to 6 credits may be applied from another
program outside of M.C.M. Students may transfer up to 6 credits of graduate
coursework toward the degree if credits were earned within the past five years,
if the coursework translates directly to the student's development and
preparation in the M.C.M. program, and only if the student achieved a grade of B or
better in this coursework. A syllabus for each course should be forwarded to the
M.C.M. program director for consideration of transfer. To request transfer credit,
please submit the
Transfer Form
to the M.C.M. director.
In all cases each degree student must earn at least 30
credits within the program.
There are no language or mathematics
requirements for the M.C.M. degree.
International Students
International students should visit the
Center for Global Services
website.
The center 's website includes specifics on rules about Visa status; special forms;
orientation; international advisers; and special rules concerning employment and
internships.
All international M.C.M. students are STRONGLY
ENCOURAGED to attend an orientation session as early in or
before their first semester of study.
Curriculum
M.C.M. students must complete 36 credits to earn
a degree. The program is self-paced (3-12 credits per semester). There are
seven specializations available. Once admitted to the M.C.M. program,
students can stay within a specialization or combine specializations to focus
on multiple areas of interest.
All core and elective courses in the
seven specializations are taught online and/or weeknights on campus, 6:20
to 9:00 p.m. Some electives are cross-listed with the SC&I's Ph.D. program
courses as well as the master of information program.
