About the School

Rutgers Business School-Newark and New Brunswick (RBS) is an integral part of one of the nation's oldest, largest, and most distinguished institutions of higher learning: Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.

Founded in 1929, RBS has been accredited since 1941 by the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB)--a distinction that represents the hallmark of excellence in management education. Today, RBS educates more than 5,000 undergraduate and graduate students at two main campuses in New Jersey as well as six satellite locations in New Jersey, China, and Singapore.

The fall 2009 semester marked the opening of a new state-of-the-art building for RBS, located at 1 Washington Park on the Newark Campus. Another new RBS building is sechedule to open on New Brunswick's Livingston Campus in 2012.

RBS students and faculty have access to a strong network of corporate partnerships and more than 30,000 RBS alumni. Through a multidisciplinary approach with other Rutgers schools and departments, they may also tap into a network of over 380,000 Rutgers alumni.

Steeped in academic excellence, with a distinguished faculty, RBS is highly ranked by the Financial Times, U.S. News & World Report, BusinessWeek, and the Wall Street Journal. It is consistently recognized as one of the top three business schools in the greater New York metropolitan area, and in 2009 was ranked #6 nationwide for "Most Competitive Students" by the Princeton Review.

Degree Programs

RBS offers an undergraduate program, a full-time master of business administration (M.B.A.) program, a part-time M.B.A. program, an executive M.B.A., an international executive M.B.A., and an M.B.A. in professional accounting. Other graduate degree options include the master of information technology, master of quantitative finance, as well as master of accountancy degrees in financial accounting, governmental accounting, and taxation. In addition, a Ph.D. in management is offered.

Multidisciplinary dual-degree and joint-degree programs are also available, enabling students to combine an M.B.A. degree with a science or liberal-arts degree.

RBS offers two accelerated bachelor's/master of business administration (B.A./M.B.A.) degrees, enabling students to obtain an undergraduate and graduate degree, as well as valuable work experience through a required internship, all in as little as five-and-one-half years:

  • Bachelor of Science/Master of Business Administration
    • Designed specifically for undergraduate students with an interest in science to open doors to leadership jobs and careers.
  • Bachelor of Science in Business/Master of Business Administration
    • Open to Rutgers' top business students; provides internships, team consulting, and cooperative employment opportunities which provide students with a competitive edge when launching their careers. RBS is the only business school in New Jersey that provides M.B.A. students with such powerful real-world experiences.

RBS also has longstanding dual-degree programs, with a B.S./M.B.A. and a B.A./M.B.A. degree offered in conjunction with Rutgers-Newark and Rutgers-New Brunswick schools of arts and sciences.

Masters-level dual-degree programs include a J.D./M.B.A. and a J.D./professional accounting M.B.A., offered in conjunction with the Rutgers School of Law-Newark. A master of public planning/master of business administration is offered in conjunction with Rutgers' Edward J. Bloustein School of Planning and Public Policy. Other joint degree programs include the master of public health/master of business administration, the master of science in biomedical sciences/master of business administration, and an M.D./M.B.A., offered with the University of Medicine and Dentistry New Jersey (UMDNJ).

Nondegree Programs

Nondegree programs include the post-M.B.A. certificate, the certificate in government financial management, a pharmaceutical management certificate, and the supply chain management certificate. We also offer a variety of Mini-M.B.A.TM certificates through the Center for Management Development.

 

Business Outreach and Academic Research Centers

Representative of its strong corporate partnerships, RBS is home to numerous outreach and academic research centers, including the Blanche and Irwin Lerner Center for Pharmaceutical Management Studies, the Center for Governmental Accounting Education and Research, the Center for Management Development, the Center for Nonprofit and Philanthropic Leadership, the Center for Research in Regulated Industries, East Asian Business Center, New Jersey Small Business Development Center, Prudential Business Ethics Center, Rutgers Accounting Research Center, Rutgers Center for Supply Chain Management, Rutgers University Technical Assistance Program, the Technology Management Research Center, the Whitcomb Center for Research in Financial Services, and the Center for Urban Entrepreneurship & Economic Development, among many others.
