Withdrawal and Reenrollment

Withdrawal

A student who wishes to withdraw from all courses before the end of the ninth week of instruction must obtain a Notification of Withdrawal form from the student's academic dean's office. The form must be signed by the student's academic dean, the business office, the financial aid office (if the student receives financial aid), and housing office (if the student lives in university housing). The completed form then must be submitted to the Office of the Registrar. A withdrawal form may be submitted by mail if illness prevents a student from presenting it in person. The date on which the student's academic dean signs the withdrawal form is considered the official withdrawal date.

A student who leaves the university without officially withdrawing in this manner receives a failing grade in each course.

A student is not eligible for any refund of tuition unless the withdrawal is formally reported to the registrar according to the proper procedure. Students may access information about refunds at this website.

A student who officially withdraws from the college or school prior to the end of the ninth week of instruction receives grades of W for all courses. A student who leaves the college or school during the final four weeks of instruction receives grades of F in all courses.

Reenrollment

A student who withdraws from the college or school during a semester or who fails to register for the next regularly scheduled semester (not including Summer and Winter Sessions) must submit an online reenrollment application found at https://www.ugadmissions.rutgers.edu/reenrollment. A student may not register again without receiving permission to reenter the college or school from the appropriate dean by completing the reenrollment application. Application deadlines and notification dates also may be found at the website with the application.

Upon receiving acceptance from the academic unit, students must adhere to the requirements of the readmitting unit.

A student who has been dismissed from the college or school for academic reasons must apply for reinstatement to the appropriate dean or the Scholastic Standing Committee of the academic unit from which he or she was dismissed, following the steps outlined in the Academic Policies and Procedures section of the relevant college's or school's catalog.
