Final Examinations

Final examinations are held at the close of each semester. In courses in which final examinations are required, all final examinations are to be administered at the scheduled time (http://scheduling.newark.rutgers.edu/finalexamsched.php). Students who are scheduled to take more than two final examinations on a single day or to take two examinations at the same time may contact their appropriate dean's office in order to arrange for alternative accommodations, but must do so at least two weeks prior to the examination day on which the conflict occurs.

Except in the case of such conflict, no student in a course in which a final examination is required may be permitted to take a deferred examination unless his or her absence from the scheduled examination is excused in accordance with the provisions of this catalog pertaining to attendance or absence due to religious observance. If the student is denied permission to take a deferred examination, this decision may be appealed to the department chair, and finally to the appropriate dean.

Deferred examinations from the fall semester must be taken within two weeks after the beginning of the spring semester. Deferred examinations from the spring semester must be taken within two weeks after the close of the spring semester. In cases of extreme hardship, the time may be extended for a strictly limited period with written permission of the dean and the instructor.
