Declaration of a Major



To declare or change a major, students must complete a form, which is available in the academic department that offers that major and online at the website for the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs at http://www.newark.rutgers.edu/dsanwk. Students may declare a major after they have earned 24 credits, satisfied the English proficiency sequence and the math proficiency, and earned a minimum cumulative grade-point average of 2.0. For students wishing to major in accounting, finance, management, or marketing, declaration must be made directly to the Rutgers Business School: Undergraduate-Newark. A minimum cumulative grade-point average of 2.5 is necessary to remain in the Rutgers Business School. For students wishing to major in criminal justice, declaration must be made directly to the School of Criminal Justice. At the latest, a student must declare a major by the completion of 56 credits.
