Students have access to five computer laboratories in the law library as well as others strategically located throughout the Newark Campus. Here, the university provides access to word processing, spreadsheet, and database programs, including those from the Center for Computer-Aided Legal Instruction, to selected legal databases such as Lexis Nexis and Westlaw, and to selected CD-ROM programs. Classrooms equipped for computer-aided instruction and distance learning also are available. All lecture halls and classrooms with fixed seating are wired for power. Wired and/or wireless ethernet connections are available in the lower-level classrooms, dining area, Baker Trial Courtroom, the Robert N. Wilentz Appellate Courtroom, and other convenient locations such as library carrels and tables. Wireless signal also extends to many soft seating areas in and around the atrium.
Students have access to the internet, email and news services, and discussion groups through activation of the NetID that is provided to all entering students. Class materials are generally available through the BlackBoard course management system, and many items of general interest to students are available on the law school's website, www.law.newark.rutgers.edu. Student groups and individuals may also use accounts to post websites on centrally supported hosts. These resources require secure login and can be accessed from home and other remote locations through standard internet connections such as cable modems or DSL lines.
