Students have access to five computer laboratories in the law
library as well as others strategically located throughout the Newark Campus. Here, the university provides access to word processing,
spreadsheet, and database programs, including those from the Center for
Computer-Aided Legal Instruction, to selected legal databases such as
Lexis and Westlaw, and to selected CD-ROM programs. Classrooms equipped
for computer-aided instruction and distance learning also are
available. All lecture halls and classrooms with fixed seating are
wired for power. Wired and/or wireless ethernet connections are available in the lower level classrooms, dining area, Baker Trial
Courtroom, the Robert N. Wilentz Appellate Courtroom, and other
convenient locations, such as library carrels and tables. Wireless signal also extends to many soft seating areas in and around the atrium.
Students have
access to the internet, email and news services, and discussion groups
through an account on a university mainframe system that is provided to
all entering students. Class materials are generally available through the BlackBoard course management system, and many items of general interest to students are available on the law school's website, www.law.newark.rutgers.edu. Student groups may post websites on the server that hosts the school's websites. Individuals may also use their centrally managed student accounts to post personal websites. These resources require secure login and can be accessed from home and other remote locations through standard internet connections such as cable modems or DSL lines. Modem support is limited.
