The graduate program in environmental science is a joint effort among the Departments of Earth and Environmental Sciences at Rutgers University-Newark, Chemistry and Environmental Science at the New Jersey Institute of Technology (NJIT), and Biological Sciences at Rutgers University-Newark and NJIT. Students may enter the program through Rutgers and earn a master of science (M.S.) degree or a doctoral degree (Ph.D.), including special tracks in geological sciences and biological sciences.
Graduate environmental science education at Rutgers is supported by faculty research focusing in soil geochemistry, air pollution, marine microbiology, geobiology, structural geology, and near-surface geophysics. The program maintains a strong affiliation with the Meadowlands Environment Research Institute (MERI) located close to campus. The program is also associated with the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences at Rutgers University-New Brunswick and Rutgers Biomedical and Health Sciences.
