Nondegree Graduate Student Program
Nondegree graduate study is available at the discretion of
each of the graduate programs. Enrollment is on a part-time,
nonmatriculated basis. For information on which programs offer nondegree
study, contact the Office of Graduate and Professional Admissions.
To apply for nondegree admission, submit the application found at http://gradstudy.rutgers.edu.
With the approval of the appropriate graduate
program director, as many as 12 credits earned in courses successfully
completed in the nondegree program may be applied to satisfy requirements
for students subsequently admitted to degree programs. Admission to a
nondegree program, however, is independent and distinct from admission to
a degree program. Each requires a separate application and fee, and
admission to nondegree study does not guarantee admission to a degree
program. Students are not permitted to accumulate more than 12 credits in
nondegree study prior to matriculation in a degree program.
To exercise this option, students must seek the credit within five years
of taking the courses. In addition, they must apply and gain admission to
a graduate degree program appropriate to the courses completed. Students
must maintain a B average or better in their coursework.
Students admitted to nondegree study must comply
with the rules, regulations, and deadlines of the Graduate
School–Newark.
