Master's degree candidates are expected to complete 24 credits of coursework, including two core courses and substantial work in at least one interdisciplinary field and 6 credits of thesis work or internship.
Following are the master's program graduation requirements:
Courses (24 credits)
* Core courses in the theory and methodology of American studies 26:050:501 Introduction to American Studies (3 credits) 26:050:502 Research Seminar (3 credits) * Major interdisciplinary field
(12 credits)
* Elective work in other disciplines or interdisciplinary fields
(6 credits)
Thesis Option (6 credits)
Students who choose not to prepare a master's thesis will take an additional 6 credits in electives.
Comprehensive Examination
Students must complete a written comprehensive examination testing their knowledge of American studies issues covered in the core courses and their field of concentration.
