Qualifying Examination

All students must pass the qualifying examination in order to become candidates for the Ph.D. degree in integrative neuroscience. These examinations take place early in the fall semester of the student's third year in the program, typically during September.  Please see our website for detailed information about the various formats available: http://www.ins.rutgers.edu.

The examination is administered by a committee composed of six faculty members of the graduate program in integrative neuroscience. Three of those faculty members are drawn from Rutgers and three from UMDNJ. Faculty members serving on the qualifying examination committee are appointed to three-year terms by the director(s) of the graduate program. The director(s) also name a chair and vice chair of the committee. The chair serves a two-year term as chair and then rotates off the committee. At that point, the vice chair moves up to become chair, and a new vice chair is appointed.
