Second-Degree Program Curriculum


Rutgers School of Nursing offers an opportunity for students who have already earned a bachelor's degree in another field to pursue a second bachelor degree. Students in the second-degree program seeking the bachelor of science (B.S.) in nursing degree must complete 62 credits.

Graduates will be eligible to register to take the NCLEX-RN licensure exam in the state of New Jersey and in other states.

First Semester (16 Credits)

Required Prerequisite Courses

Admission to the second-degree baccalaureate program requires the completion of these prerequisite courses:

  • Anatomy and Physiology I and II* (8 credits with lab)

  • Microbiology* (4 credits with lab)

  • Organic Biochemistry OR General Chemistry II* (4 credits with lab)

  • Statistics (3)

  • Life Span: A Holistic Approach (3)

  • Nutrition (3)


Notes:
-Courses designed for "science or nursing" majors are highly preferred and must be taken within five years of acceptance into the program. No time limitation on all other courses.
-All of the prerequisite course must be undergraduate 100 level or higher and must be completed with a grade of C (2.0) or better. An overall grade-point average of 3.0 or better is required in science courses.
-Final determination of acceptance of prerequisite courses will be made by the admissions committee when your completed application is ready for review.
-All science prerequisite courses must be completed prior to application to the program.
