Undergraduate Program Admission

• English: four years
• Foreign Language: None required
• Mathematics: three years, including algebra I, geometry, algebra II
  
• Science: one year each of biology and chemistry
  
• Other Courses: seven other academic courses
• Total: 16 academic courses

Please note that these are the minimum requirements for your file to be reviewed for admission. Additional coursework in other areas of study, as well as a balance of other activities will also be considered during the review process. 

The admissions review will look at the type of coursework that has been completed in high school. Above and beyond the basic requirements for graduation, they will look for college preparatory courses that challenge you as a student. Students who pursue additional coursework in the core curricular areas will give themselves a better opportunity for admissions consideration because they will have completed more coursework. Courses in Advanced Placement subjects, honors programs, and other areas of study that demonstrate a student's ability to manage intensive course credit loads will be taken into account. College coursework completed while in high school will be considered as well, however, this will not be a significant determining factor in acceptance. 

Extracurricular activities will be considered. We are interested in students who have challenged themselves academically, socially, and culturally and who have been able to balance the responsibilities that are inherent in each area. 

The average SAT score for admission consideration depends on the competitiveness of the applicant pool. There is no singular score that is recognized as a median. However, as with anything else in applying to college, the higher the SAT scores, the better your chances. The university will accept a combination of the highest scores you received. 

These elements of the entire admissions application, from transcript to SAT scores to extracurricular activities to personal statements, are taken into consideration to determine admission into the program. 

Traditional Program (Blackwood)

Students applying to the program must have either an associate of science degree or 60 undergraduate prerequisite credits required for the bachelor of science degree in nursing. All applicants must be affiliated with Camden County College.

Applicants with a preferred grade-point average (GPA) of at least 3.3 out of 4.0 will be given full consideration during the application process. Individuals who are interested in the program but do not meet the preferred GPA are still encouraged to apply. Visit the Blackwood program overview for more information and contact details.

Second-Degree Baccalaureate Program (Newark and New Brunswick)

Admission to the second-degree program is open for the summer and spring semester of each year. The program is designed for the student who already possesses a bachelor's degree in another field. 

The School of Nursing requires specific prerequisites to be completed before one is accepted into the program.

Degree Requirement:

• A baccalaureate degree with a recommended 3.30 GPA or above (where A=4.0).

Prerequisite Courses:

• Anatomy and Physiology I and II: 4 credits each w/labs (8 credits total)
• Organic Biochemistry or General Chemistry II: 4 credits w/lab
• Microbiology: 4 credits w/lab
• Nutrition: 3 credits
• Life Span Growth and Development: 3 credits
• Statistics: 3 credits

Please note the following:

• All of the prerequisite courses must be undergraduate 100 level or higher.   
• All science prerequisite courses must be completed within 10 years of acceptance to the program. No time limitation on all other courses.
• All science prerequisite courses must be completed by the time the applicant submits their application.
• A grade of 3.0 or better is required in both anatomy and physiology courses.  Students not meeting this requirement are encouraged to retake the course(s) at a regionally accredited college or university.  
• An overall grade of 3.0 or better is required for the science courses.  
• All other prerequisite courses are required to be completed with a grade of C or better prior to enrollment in this program.
• While it is strongly recommended that all prerequisite courses be completed at the time of application, students who have two nonscience prerequisite courses pending at the time of application will be considered. Students are required to submit proof of registration for any pending prerequisite course(s). All pending nonscience prerequisite courses must be completed by the time the student enters the School of Nursing.

• Upon admission to the program, evidence of current American Heart Association Basic Life Support for Health Care Provider certification for Adult, Child, Infant, and Automated External Defibrillator (AED) must be provided.

R.N. to B.S. in Nursing

The R.N. to B.S. in nursing program admits new students annually for the fall semester. Program admission criteria are as listed:

• Graduate from an accredited NLNAC/ACEN college with an associate degree in nursing or diploma nursing program. (Students currently enrolled in an associate degree or diploma nursing program who expect to complete the program and pass the NCLEX after the application deadline are encouraged to apply.)
• GPA of 3.2 or higher (Students are selected on a competitive basis, therefore the GPA required for an actual offer of admission may be higher depending on the applicant pool.)
• Current New Jersey registered nursing license. (The final official school transcript stating the degree was earned and copy of a New Jersey registered nursing license is required to start and/or continue the program.)

School Nurse Certificate Program

Admission to the postbaccalaureate certificate program is open for the fall semester. The certificate program is designed for professional registered nurses who wish to be certified in school nursing in the state of New Jersey. Certification is offered as a postbaccalaureate program for registered nurses with a B.A., B.S., or B.S.N. and/or as a minor for registered nurses pursuing a baccalaureate degree at the School of Nursing. Program requirements:

• Current license as a registered professional nurse in New Jersey.
• Baccalaureate degree from a regionally accredited college or university.
• GPA of 3.0 or higher (Students are selected on a competitive basis, therefore the GPA required for an actual offer of admission may be higher.)
