10:652:201 Foundations of Medical Ethics and Policy (3) Students explore the conceptual foundations of medical ethics that challenge the practice of medicine and health research in different world settings. Credit cannot be given for both this course and 01:730:248.
10:652:210 Literature of Medical Ethics (2) The classic literature of medical ethics forms the basis of class discussion. Students analyze the impact of these works on society's morals and traditions.
10:652:296,297 Special Topics (3,3) Topics vary. See WebReg for current offerings. This course is designed to address current issues in planning and public policy.
10:652:298,299 Independent Study (BA,BA) Prerequisites: A contract with a faculty sponsor and permission of the program director.
10:652:301 Topics in Medical Ethics (3) Explore the latest "hot topics" in medical ethics, from gene-editing, big data, and performance enhancement to enduring social problems with equity and social justice. Prerequisite: 10:652:201 or 01:730:248. Credit cannot be given for both this course and 01:730:348.
10:652:309 Ethical Challenges in America: Poverty, Stress, and Health (3) Explore the compelling evidence for the lasting effects of stress, particularly for the poor, and efforts by the health care industry to mediate these effects.
10:652:319 Medical Narratives (3) Experience stories that acknowledge and interpret the experience of individuals with health decisions often made for them by others. Reflective writing illuminates these interactive experiences.
10:652:399 Special Topics in Medical Ethics and Policy (3) Topics vary. See WebReg for current offerings. This course is designed to address current issues in planning and public policy.
10:652:400 Research Ethics (3) Examines the origins of contemporary research ethics and paradigm studies that contributed to modern day rules and regulations. Particular attention is given to ethical issues arising in research involving vulnerable populations and research in international settings.
