Student Life

Students of the School of Communication and Information (SC&I) have the opportunity to participate in residence life, dormitories, or nearby off-campus housing in New Brunswick. See the Residence Life website for further information.

Rutgers University-New Brunswick offers undergraduate students almost unlimited possibilities for co- and extracurricular activities. There are over 400 student organizations on campus, and their student leaders participate in advisement, organizational development programs, and support services. These groups range from academic to social action organizations and include the student government of the university, Rutgers University Student Assembly (R.U.S.A.). Dozens of fraternities and sororities offer opportunities for friendship, academic support, and housing. Rutgers has a wide range of intercollegiate and intramural athletics and is home to the Scarlet Knights

Within SC&I there are over a dozen student organizations that offer social, educational, service, and career development activities and events. Most events are publicized and open to all students. Leadership opportunities are plentiful, and student leaders receive ongoing support and assistance through the SC&I Office of Student Services.

The SC&I Leadership Council is an advisory group consisting of the presidents and vice presidents of each of the undergraduate and graduate student organizations recognized and supported by the school. The Leadership Council serves as a vehicle for collaborative opportunities and initiatives including: providing a voice for the student experience; promoting interactions and collaborations among student organizations; providing perspective and direct feedback to the school's administration; and developing models for leadership for all students.
