07:206:100 Dance Assembly (N.5) Grade based on attendance. Required of all dance majors during each semester of enrollment as a declared B.F.A. dance major.
07:206:101 Concussion Awareness (E) Not for degree credit. ConcussionWise training designed to heighten student awareness of concussion symptoms to ensure timely medical care is received should they occur. Required of all dance majors during each fall semester of enrollment as a declared dance major.
07:206:110 Dance Rotation Workshop (.5) Introduces B.F.A. dance majors to diverse dance techniques and somatic practices through studio-based experiences including, but not limited to; Bartenieff Fundamentals, Bharata Natyam, Kathak, Klein Technique, Graham Technique, Cunningham Technique, contact improvisation, Gaga Technique, ballroom dance styles, yoga, capoeira, dance forms of the African diaspora, Latin dance forms, Asian dance forms, Pilates, Alexander Technique and Feldenkrais Method, among others. Course content will be presented to students over 12 weeks, in either three four-week sessions or two six-week sessions. Each course meeting time is two hours in duration. Open only to B.F.A., M.F.A dance majors. Corequisite for M.F.A. students: Graduation Rotation Workshop (08:206:505); Faculty/Guest Artist Repertory (08:206:510).
07:206:126 Rhythm for Dancers (2) Analysis of rhythmic structure relative to movement. Sight-reading note values, movement dictation, and composition. Prerequisites: 07:203:123 and 124, or permission of instructor.
07:206:137 Dance Technique Workshop (1) Continued development of advanced skills in modern dance techniques. Summer Session only. Open only to advanced dancers or with permission of instructor.
07:206:138 Dance Technique 1 (3) Introduction to the development of modern dance movement skills. Open only to B.F.A. dance majors.
07:206:139 Dance Technique 2 (3) Practice in the articulation of movement for the improvement of modern dance skills. Prerequisite: 07:206:138 or permission of the instructor. Open only to B.F.A. dance majors.
07:206:142 Dance Improvisation 1 (2) Introductory experience in dance improvisation including the use of kinetics, movement design, and spatial sensing as potential sources of movement and partner interaction. Open only to dance majors and minors.
07:206:145 Performance Skills 1 (2) Development of performance skills culminating in the public performance of faculty choreography in a major department faculty production. Open only to B.F.A. majors.
07:206:153 Advanced Ballet Workshop (1) Continued development of advanced skills in ballet. Summer Session only. Prerequisite: Open only to advanced dancers or with permission of instructor.
07:206:154 Ballet Pointe Class (1) Class includes participation in a ballet barre and center work. The focus will be on the practice and principles of the classical ballet vocabulary with an emphasis on strengthening foundational skills in pointe technique. Advice will be given on how students can best prepare and maintain their pointe shoes.
07:206:155 Men's Ballet (1) Class includes participation in a ballet barre and center work. The focus will be on the practice and principles of the classical ballet vocabulary with an emphasis on strengthening foundational skills in men's technique.
07:206:161 Production Study (1-2) Crew assignments for dance productions. Dance B.A. major and dance minors to complete 1 credit; dance B.F.A. majors to complete 2 credits.
07:206:175 World Dance (2) The study of traditional dance styles of a given culture, their historical development, performance techniques, and terminology. Each semester focuses on a specific culture. Prerequisite: B.A. dance majors and dance minors must have completed 07:203:226. Open only to dance majors and dance minors. May be repeated for credit if a new culture.
07:206:235 Choreography 1 (2) Introduction to the choreographic process. Solo forms and group choreography. Prerequisite: 07:206:243 or permission of the instructor. Open only to B.F.A. dance majors.
07:206:237 Dance Production (3) Theoretical and practical applications of computer, video, audio, and technical theater skills necessary to produce, promote, and direct a dance concert. Students develop skills in a fully equipped audiovisual computer laboratory with attached dance studio and two professional theaters.
07:206:240 Dance Technique 3 (3) Continued development of modern dance movement skills. Prerequisite: 07:206:139 or permission of the instructor. Open only to B.F.A. dance majors.
07:206:241 Dance Technique 4 (3) Practice in intermediate-level modern dance skills. Prerequisite: 07:206:240 or permission of the instructor. Open only to B.F.A. dance majors.
07:206:243 Dance Improvisation 2 (2) Exploration of dance improvisation as the source of movement for choreography. Prerequisite: 07:206:142 or permission of the instructor. Open only to B.F.A. dance majors.
07:206:245 Performance Skills 2 (2) Development of performance skills culminating in the public performance of faculty choreography in a major department faculty production. Prerequisite: 07:206:145 or permission of the instructor. Open only to B.F.A. majors.
07:206:251 Ballet 4 (2) Advanced-intermediate barre and center-floor ballet technique. Open only to B.F.A. dance majors. May be repeated once for credit.
07:206:252 Ballet 5 (2) Advanced-intermediate ballet technique with emphasis on adagio and allegro. Prerequisite: 07:206:251 or permission of the instructor. May be repeated once for credit. Open only to B.F.A. dance majors.
07:206:274 Jazz Dance (2) Various styles and techniques in the idiom of jazz dance. Prerequisites: B.A. dance majors must have completed 07:203:226. Dance minors must have completed 07:203:150 and 07:203:225. May be repeated for credit. Open to dance majors and minors.
07:206:276 African Fusion Dance (2) The study of fusion dance forms evolved from traditional and contemporary African and African-American dance forms. Practice in performance techniques. Prerequisite: B.A. dance majors and dance minors must have completed 07:203:226. Open only to dance majors and dance minors.
07:206:277 Latino and Hispanic Dance Forms (2) Studio course includes technique and performance of selected dance forms within their historical and cultural contexts. Dance forms may include indigenous, diasporic, and hybrid dances from the Caribbean, Mexico, and South America; classical Spanish and Flamenco dance; and Filipino dances derived from Spanish influence. Prerequisite: B.A. dance majors and dance minors must have completed 07:203:226. Open only to dance majors and dance minors.
07:206:311 Ballet 6 (2) Ballet technique emphasizing advanced barre and center floor work. Prerequisite: 07:206:252 or permission of instructor. Open only to B.F.A. dance majors. May be repeated for credit.
07:206:319 Sound and Movement (3) Analysis of the relationships of music and dance in content, form, and structure. Prerequisite: B.A. dance majors must have completed 07:203:126 or permission of the instructor.
07:206:325 Kinesiology for Dancers (3) Functional human anatomy and the study of the scientific basis of human movement as they relate to dance training. Course includes somatic studies of diverse movement disciplines. Open only to dance majors.
07:206:327 Advanced Rhythm and Drumming Skills (2) Stick and hand techniques for various percussion instruments for self-accompaniment in modern dance. Prerequisite: B.A. dance majors must have completed 07:203:226 or permission of the instructor.
07:206:334 Choreography 2 (2) Continued development of solo and group choreographic process with emphasis on movement invention and experimental forms. Prerequisite: 07:206:235. Open only to B.F.A. dance majors.

07:206:340 Soundscapes for Dance (2) Exploration of aesthetic and technical issues in creating recorded sound accompaniment for concert dance. Prerequisite: Permission of instructor.
07:206:342 Dance Technique 5 (3) Continued development of intermediate-level skills in modern dance. Prerequisite: 07:206:241 or permission of the instructor. Open only to B.F.A. dance majors.
07:206:343 Dance Technique 6 (3) Practice in advanced-intermediate skills in modern dance. Prerequisite: 07:206:342 or permission of the instructor. Open only to B.F.A. dance majors.
07:206:344 Video for Dance (2) Communication through dance as a video art. Emphasis on video shooting and editing techniques, environmental controls, and improvisational dance movement structures used in the creation of video dance projects.
07:206:345 Advanced Improvisation (2) Advanced development of improvisational skills with an emphasis on form as an integral part of creative and performance processes through exploration of contemporary dance practice and interdisciplinary performance practices. Prerequisite: 07:206:243. Open only to B.F.A. dance majors.
07:206:352 Teaching as an Artist (3) Methods of teaching dance technique, improvisation, and composition to children. Analysis of child development in relation to perception, motor learning, and the creative process in dance. Fieldwork. Not open to first-year students. Open only to B.F.A. dance majors.
07:206:360 University DanceWorks (2) Performance experience in the student touring dance company. Prerequisite: Admission by audition only. B.F.A. dance majors only. May be repeated for credit.
07:206:363 Modern Dance Repertory (2) Study and performance of specific works from the modern dance repertory, both historical and contemporary, by guest or resident choreographers. Prerequisite: Admission by audition only. B.F.A. dance majors only. May be repeated for credit.
07:206:402 Introduction to Laban Movement Analysis (3) A systematic study of Laban's theoretical model describing concepts and principles of human movement. Includes an overview of Bartenieff Fundamentals (BF), an integrative tool for reeducating the body. Open only to dance majors.
07:206:431 Dance History--World Survey Online (3) Study of dance in diverse cultures and times through film, video, reading, lectures, discussion, and directed research. Activity fee for films and field trips. Please note: Students may not receive credit for both 07:206:431 and 441.
07:206:432 Dance History--1900 to Present Online (3) Dance artists and dance masterpieces in the Western theater tradition from 1900 to the present. Study of the influences on contemporary concert dance of diverse cultural, artistic, and social movements through film, video, reading, lectures, discussion, and directed research. Activity fee for films and field trips. Please note: Students may not receive credit for both 07:206:432 and 442.
07:206:434 Choreography 4 (2) Individual creative projects resulting in the production of a dance concert. Prerequisite: 07:206:335. Open only to B.F.A. dance majors.
07:206:441 Dance History--World Survey (3) Study of dance in diverse cultures and times through film, video, reading, lectures, discussion, and directed research. Activity fee for films and field trips.  Please note: Students may not receive credit for both 07:206:431 and 441.
07:206:442 Dance History--1900 to Present (3) Dance artists and dance masterpieces in the Western theater tradition from 1900 to the present. 07:206:447-448 Independent Study in Dance (B.F.A.,BA) Reading and/or studio research determined by the student and adviser with the consent of the department committee for independent study. Open only to junior and senior dance majors with permission of the department. Students may only take up to two independent studies in dance per year.
07:206:495 Special Topics/Dance (BA) Intensive study of a single topic from a variety of perspectives including technical, creative, production, educational, and theoretical inquiry. Prerequisite: Department approval required before registration.
