History and Aims of the School

The Rutgers Business School: Undergraduate-New Brunswick (RBS-UNB) offers major programs that lead to the bachelor of science degree in accounting, business analytics and information technology, finance, management, marketing, and supply chain management and marketing science. Undergraduate degrees in the broad functional areas of business have been offered New Brunswick since 1934. In 1981, these departments were reorganized into the School of Administrative Sciences under the Faculty of Professional Studies.

In June 1984, the university's Board of Governors approved a reorganization of the School of Administrative Sciences into the School of Business. The new School of Business received final approval from the New Jersey Department of Higher Education in February 1986, and began operation as a distinct unit on September 1, 1986. In April 1991, the School of Business-New Brunswick received its accreditation from the Association to Advance Collegiate Schools of Business International (AACSB International) in business administration.

In 1996, the School of Business, the School of Management in Newark, and the Graduate School of Management, the business units on Rutgers' northern campuses, were merged into a single school that was subsequently named Rutgers Business School-Newark and New Brunswick. The undergraduate business program in New Brunswick remains a separate program--with unique entrance and graduation requirements--within the Rutgers Business School.

The Rutgers Business School: Undergraduate-New Brunswick has the following mission: to provide a high-quality program of study for students wishing to pursue professional careers in industry and public accounting firms, to expand the university's research efforts in the areas of business and managerial issues, to encourage faculty in business studies to serve the business and government communities, and to participate in professional associations.
