Performance Concentration
Students in the performance concentration must take the following courses in music theory (25 credits):

electives (10) These 10 elective credits are needed in order to earn the 120 credits required for graduation. Three of these credits must be from liberal arts courses. The remaining 7 credits may come from any 701 course, four of which may be piano class, or 700 courses at the 300 level or above.
Students in the performance concentration must complete a minimum of 33 credits in liberal arts courses (see Degree Requirements) and 10 additional credits of elective courses, for a total of 120 credits required for graduation. All performance students present a recital in the senior year in partial fulfillment of the requirements for graduation. Acceptability of this recital is determined by a faculty jury in attendance.

There are two streams that music education may follow: vocal/general concentration, which requires 122 total credits for graduation, and instrumental concentration, which requires a total of 123 credits for graduation. The total number of requirements for each concentration includes 30 credits in liberal arts courses. Some of these credits are in courses specified for certification. In order for state certification to be granted, the National Teachers Examination must be passed.
