Pharm.D./M.B.A.
The Pharm.D./M.B.A. is designed for students who wish to add business expertise to their professional pharmacy education. Pharm.D. students may earn advanced standing in the Rutgers Business School: Graduate Programs-Newark and New Brunswick (RBS) master of business administration (M.B.A.) program for some of their required and elective Pharm.D. courses. In order to earn advanced standing in business communications, students should take Business Writing Essentials, Writing for Business and the Professions, or
Collaborative
Writing Practices: Social Networking for Business as their second writing
course. Pharm.D. students, who meet academic eligibility requirements, may apply to the Rutgers Business School: Graduate Programs-Newark and New Brunswick in their fourth professional year. If accepted, students matriculate into RBS immediately after completion of the Pharm.D., or they may defer enrollment for one year. With advanced standing, full-time students will complete the M.B.A. in approximately 15 months; part-time students need approximately three years to complete the program.
Pharm.D./M.P.H.
The Pharm.D./master pf public health (M.P.H.) program is designed to provide students with in-depth complementary training as pharmacists and public health experts. The Pharm.D./M.P.H. is offered in conjunction with the School of Public Health. Graduates will build on their pharmacy training with a sound understanding of public health fields, such as organization of health services, pharmacoepidemiology, health care policy, biostatistics, and environmental health. Students meeting the eligibility requirements may apply for admission during the second professional year or later after completing two public health core courses. Students enroll in the School of Public Health after they complete the Pharm.D. program. With advanced standing, full-time students may finish the M.P.H. in one; part-time students need approximately three years to compete the program.
Pharm.D./Ph.D.
The Pharm.D./Ph.D. degree option is designed to
meet the needs
and interests of exceptionally bright and highly motivated students
wishing to
pursue the doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) degree. Students are eligible to apply for entry into
the
graduate program in pharmaceutical science or the joint graduate program
in
toxicology by the end of the second professional year of the Pharm.D.
program.
Applicants must meet the entry criteria, including academic performance
standards and Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores as set by the graduate
program
and an interview with a member of the dual-degree faculty committee.
Admitted
students will continue in the Pharm.D. program and complete graduate
courses
and/or research during the summer and also in place of professional
electives.
Students will complete the Pharm.D. and graduate at the end of the
fourth
professional year. They will remain in graduate school for approximately
three
years while engaging predominantly in research with a mentor and
advisory
committee. Over this time the student will complete required coursework
and
conduct research in accordance with the curriculum of the graduate
program and
will fulfill the requirements of both degrees in six plus three years.
The
program is highly individualized to the student's research interests.
