Pharm.D./M.B.A.
The Pharm.D./M.B.A. is designed for students who wish to add business expertise to their professional pharmacy education. Pharm.D. students may earn advanced standing in the Rutgers Business School (RBS) master of business administration (M.B.A.) program for some of their required and elective Pharm.D. courses. In order to earn advanced standing in business communications, students should take Business Writing Essentials, Writing for Business and the Professions, or
Collaborative
Writing Practices: Social Networking for Business as their second writing
course. Pharm.D. students, who meet academic eligibility requirements, may apply to the Rutgers Business School in their fourth professional year. If accepted, students matriculate into RBS immediately after completion of the Pharm.D., or they may defer enrollment for one year. With advanced standing, full-time students will complete the M.B.A. in one year; part-time students need approximately three years to complete the M.B.A.
Pharm.D./Ph.D.
The Pharm.D./Ph.D. degree option is designed to
meet the needs
and interests of exceptionally bright and highly motivated students
wishing to
pursue the doctor of philosophy (Ph.D.) degree. Students are eligible to apply for entry into
the
graduate program in pharmaceutical science or the joint graduate program
in
toxicology by the end of the second professional year of the Pharm.D.
program.
Applicants must meet the entry criteria, including academic performance
standards and Graduate Record Exam (GRE) scores as set by the graduate
program
and an interview with a member of the dual-degree faculty committee.
Admitted
students will continue in the Pharm.D. program and complete graduate
courses
and/or research during the summer and also in place of professional
electives.
Students will complete the Pharm.D. and graduate at the end of the
fourth
professional year. They will remain in graduate school for approximately
three
years while engaging predominantly in research with a mentor and
advisory
committee. Over this time the student will complete required coursework
and
conduct research in accordance with the curriculum of the graduate
program and
will fulfill the requirements of both degrees in six plus three years.
The
program is highly individualized to the student's research interests.
