Students in the Rutgers Business School: Undergraduate–New Brunswick are expected to maintain the highest level of academic performance. While academic standards involve many issues beyond academic performance, including adherence to university procedures regarding academic dishonesty and illegal and/or unauthorized actions in the academic setting, students should be aware of the school's specific scholastic standing policies. Any one of the following conditions will result in dismissal from Rutgers Business School: Undergraduate–New Brunswick and Rutgers University:
- Cumulative grade-point average lower than 2.0 at the end of the second or a later semester
- Three grades of D (1.0) or F (0.0) received in eligibility courses
- Two grades of D (1.0) or F (0.0) received in the same eligibility course
- Not completing all six eligibility courses with a grade of C (2.0) or better by the end of the sophomore year
- Cumulative grade-point average lower than 3.0 at the end of the sophomore year
- Three grades of D (1.0) or F (0.0) received in business courses
- Two grades of D (1.0) or F (0.0) received in the same business course
Students dismissed from the Rutgers Business School: Undergraduate–New Brunswick have been dismissed from Rutgers University and may not continue study at the university unless readmitted to RBS-UNB or another Rutgers University unit. These students will be allowed to continue their registration at RBS-UNB for one semester but will not be permitted to take RBS-UNB courses. This is called a "carry semester." During that semester students must either apply for a school-to-school transfer to another unit of Rutgers University or transfer out of Rutgers University. At the end of the carry semester, these students will not be enrolled in RBS-UNB or at Rutgers University unless they have transferred to another Rutgers unit.
Students dismissed from the Rutgers Business School: Undergraduate–New Brunswick may petition the Academic Standing Committee for reconsideration of the dismissal if there are extenuating circumstances that account for their poor academic performance. This must be done in writing by the date indicated in their letter of dismissal. (Students dismissed as a result of earning a cumulative GPA lower than 2.00 at the end of the second or later semester may not appeal this decision.)
- While the acceptance of an appeal is not guaranteed, if your appeal is accepted, you will be readmitted and placed on continued probation for the following semester of enrollment and a note of academic dismissal will remain in your academic file.
- The appeal must be written by the student and should be comprehensive: elaborating on nonacademic problems such as financial, medical, and personal hardships that affected his or her performance during the semester. Presenting false or intentionally misleading information in the appeal may result in immediate dismissal of the appeal and/or judicial charges.
- The appeal should be typed (not handwritten) and should be no more than four pages.
Please include information about:
- The circumstances that negatively impacted your academic performance during the semester of the dismissal
- What you did to address these issues or what you are doing if these circumstances are still ongoing
- Any contact that you made with any other RBS-UNB, Rutgers University, or outside office(s) to address these issues. Why or why did you not seek contact? What has changed since you contacted these offices?
- Describe an academic and personal action plan that you will implement if reinstated to RBS-UNB
- You must attach documentation to verify the problem(s) you experienced
- The appeal must include your name, RUID number, current address, and email
- Appeals that arrive after the deadline may be reviewed during the following academic standing cycle. Appeals submitted by email will NOT be accepted without prior approval from the dean.
- The decision of the Academic Standing Committee is final
