Each program is expected to have established procedures for
monitoring annually the progress of all students registered in the
program. Each doctoral program has a formal programwide procedure to
review students who have completed the equivalent of approximately one
year of full-time study and to decide whether they may continue toward
the doctorate. This procedure may be linked to the master`s degree or
to the qualifying examination, or may be independent of either. In no
case should it be postponed beyond the equivalent of one and one half
years of full-time study toward the degree. In connection with this
procedure, faculty in a position to comment on the student's
performance and progress are asked to do so by the graduate director or
a designate. In conducting its review, the program will not limit its
choice of faculty members to any list submitted by the student for
recommendations.
