School of Communication, Information and Library Studies

Gustav Friedrich, Ph.D., Dean

This school was formed in 1982 by a merger of two schools to provide academic programs that focus on various facets of communication and information science. The school

offers undergraduate programs of study in communication, and journalism and mass media. Students are admitted to the school in their junior year from the five residential

undergraduate colleges in New Brunswick: Cook, Douglass, Livingston, Rutgers, and University Colleges. Bachelor of arts degrees are awarded jointly by the School of Communication, Information and Library Studies and the undergraduate college. At the graduate level, programs are offered that lead to the degree of master of library and information science, the master of communication and information studies, and, jointly with the Graduate School-New Brunswick, the doctor of philosophy degree. Courses for in-service librarians also are provided.
