Mason Gross School of the Arts 2020-2022 Graduate Programs in Art and Design Information and Regulations for All Graduate Design & Visual Arts Students Studios

Studios

Every visual arts graduate student is assigned a studio space with 24-hour access. Second-year graduate students are given priority.

Every design graduate student is given 24-hour access to the shared design studio space. Students are expected to share the space respectfully with their peers.

Use of studios is contingent upon following U.S. Environmental Protection Agency guidelines for the safe and environmentally responsible use of art materials. Safety Rules for Graduate Students is distributed at the beginning of the academic year. Failure to comply will result in revocation of studio privileges. All students are required to complete online Rutgers University Environmental Health and Safety Training on Art Safety at https://myrehs.rutgers.edu at the start of each academic year. First-year students cannot move into their studios until they complete the training and provide proof of completion.

Students are permitted to use only university locks (not personal) when securing their studios. This is a university regulation enforced by the Division of Fire Safety. Studios must be painted and cleaned according to the rules and regulations, and graduating master of fine arts students must vacate by May 31. Students registered for Matriculation Continued may not keep their studio space beyond this date.

All artwork and possessions used in studios and galleries are not covered by Rutgers University insurance. It is strongly recommended that students obtain their own insurance. Information is available at http://riskmanagement.rutgers.edu/student-information/personal-property-insurance for purchasing insurance to cover student's personal belongings brought on campus.
