Courses Taken Not-for-Credit (Official Audit)

A student may enroll in a course without receiving academic credit if (1) space is available, (2) the instructor has approved the audit, and (3) the graduate program director has given advance approval. At registration, an N is placed in the credit prefix column on the course-request card. All course requirements except the final examination must be completed. The student is graded S or U (satisfactory or unsatisfactory), and the course and grade are entered on the student's permanent record, but no credit is given toward a degree for the course.
