Class Attendance Policy

Absence from any class is problematic. In the event that an absence is unavoidable, it is the student's responsibility to discuss the absence with the instructor to determine whether the absence is excused. One unexcused absence from class can lower the student's final grade; two unexcused absences may result in failure. In the master of fine arts acting program, no unexcused absences are permitted in any class. Three late arrivals are equal to one unexcused absence. Students are responsible for making up any missed work and being properly prepared for the next class.

The attendance policy for the design and technology program is that two unexcused absences from any class will result in failure of that class. Recognized religious holidays will be accepted with advance notice. In case of illness, students will be asked to provide a doctor's note supporting the absence. One unexcused absence will result in a drop of one full grade from the class at the very least. Three late arrivals of 10 minutes or longer will constitute one unexcused absence, and late arrivals of lesser amounts will erode a student's grade to some degree.

A student having excessive absences for medical reasons may be unable to maintain the level of work required to complete the program. More than four absences due to illness, even though excused, may result in a requirement to withdraw and retake the class. Extensive absence due to illness will be discussed with the department chair and the Mason Gross dean of students to determine the most suitable course of action.
