Israel Hicks (chairperson, directing) currently holds the
position of artistic associate at the Denver Center Theater Company.
Over the past 12 seasons, he has directed six plays by August Wilson
including Seven Guitars, Two Trains Running, Fences, Joe Turner`s Come
and Gone, The Piano Lesson, Ma Rainey`s Black Bottom, Jitney, and King
Hedley II. Other DCTC productions include Blues for an Alabama Sky;
Romeo and Juliet; Coming of the Hurricane; Home; and the world premiers
of Kingdom, Evil Little Thoughts, Sherry Shephard-Massat`s Waiting to
Be Invited, and Pork Pie by Michael Genet. In New York, he recently
directed No . . . No . . . No Dogs at Primary Stages. In addition,
he has directed at regional theaters throughout the country including
the Guthrie Theater in Minneapolis; the Mark Taper Forum in Los
Angeles; Seattle Repertory Theatre; Pittsburgh Public Theater; and
Milwaukee Repertory Theater. He has directed films for the National
Film Board of Canada, Universal Studios, and for the NBC and CBS
television networks. Mr. Hicks was formerly the dean of theater arts
and film at Purchase College (formerly the State University of New York
at Purchase).
