This nondegree principal eligibility program will allow students to take the required coursework leading to principal certification without entering a master's degree program.

I. Program Description

This program allows the student to take coursework that leads to New Jersey Department of Education eligibility as principal within an elementary or secondary school setting. The program does not lead to a degree of any kind.

II. Application Deadlines and Administrative Information

a. A photocopy of a New Jersey Standard Instructional Certificate or Educational Services Certificate.

b. Official academic transcripts of all undergraduate and graduate studies. Applicants must hold a master's degree or higher degree equivalent in the areas of educational leadership, or in curriculum and instruction, or in one of the recognized fields of leadership or management from a regionally accredited college or university.

c. Applicants are not usually admitted with a GPA of less than 3.25 in their most recent degree.

d. A letter of recommendation from the applicant's current or previous school principal or superintendent, on school district letterhead, certifying the completion of five years of successful, full-time employment under the appropriate certificate.

III. Application and Administrative Information

All applicants who are not currently in a graduate/nondegree program and do not have an active RUID number will need to complete a Graduate Study application online through http://gradstudy.rutgers.edu. Applicants are responsible for reviewing and confirming that they meet program requirements before the application is submitted. The Graduate School of Education WILL NOT refund the application fee if an applicant is not accepted.

Elective Courses (6 credits)

Two elective courses (6 credits) are required. These courses must be offered at the graduate level and must be selected by the student with the advisement and approval of the student's adviser.

 

Internship Courses (6 credits)

In addition to completing the 30 credits of coursework above, the student must complete the state required 300 hours of administrative internship by completing:
