The master of education (Ed.M.) degree program in dance education is designed for individuals who possess a bachelor's degree in dance from an accredited institution of higher education, and possesses qualified P-12 teaching credentials: NJ DOE CEAS, Standard, or qualified out-of-state certificate. (The NJ Certificate of Eligibility NJ CE) will not be accepted as a qualified teaching credential. Applicants holding a NJ CE must apply to the postbaccalaureate certification track. Out-of-state certificates must align with required internship and qualified P-12 teaching experience.)

The program has four major goals:
1.  To increase student knowledge about the historical development of dance education and multiple perspectives on current issues;
2.  To increase student knowledge about the pedagogy of teaching dance, and how individual differences among children with respect to abilities, and social, economic, and cultural backgrounds influence learning;
3.  To increase student abilities to conduct research, develop curriculum, construct and implement assessments, and apply data to instructional strategies and class management techniques;
4.  To augment study with inquiry into adjunct professional knowledge that may lead toward doctoral study and/or additional teaching endorsements.
