The Graduate School of Education offers a postbaccalaureate master's degree/initial teacher certification program in foreign language education and English as a second language (ESL). The program requires that a student have a bachelor's degree with a major appropriate to the area of licensure, 90 credits in liberal arts, and satisfaction of the general education distribution. The requirements needed to satisfy the general education distribution can be found in the Office of Student and Academic Services, Room 110, Graduate School of Education (732-93207496, ext. 8132).

Language and Cultural Proficiency Requirements
Proficiency in the foreign language is to be demonstrated through an Oral Proficiency Interview (OPI) in the target language administered by the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL). All students seeking certification in ESL are required to pass an Oral Proficiency Interview and a Written Proficiency Test (WPT) in English administered by ACTFL. OPI and WPT results must be on file with the Office of Student and Academic Services prior to student teaching.
