General Degree Regulations

During the academic year, a part-time student may register for a maximum of 6 credits. Permission of the adviser and program director is required for additional credits. The normal load for a full-time student is 12 credits (15 for M.P.A.P. students); registration for additional credits requires the advance approval of the graduate program director. During Summer Session, all students are limited to 1 credit per week of attendance.

The policy of the school is that credit for a course may not be applied toward both of two degrees pursued simultaneously at Rutgers, except when the student is enrolled in certain approved dual-degree programs. In those cases in which a student is authorized to include credits in his or her degree program for courses taken at the school prior to admission as a degree candidate, the date of the beginning of the coursework to be credited establishes the beginning of the time allowed to complete the degree.

The requirements for degrees and examinations and related program requirements are formulated by each program's faculty and are intended to provide the strongest possible professional preparation for students undertaking these programs.

Modifications to academic regulations may be necessary from time to time. New regulations supersede old regulations unless the student elects to be considered under the old regulations.  Students should be encouraged to double-check with the program or school for current information.
