Transportation Policy and Planning

Faculty Advisers
John Pucher (co-coordinator), Robert Noland (co-coordinator), Paul Larrousse, Martin Robins

The transport policy and planning concentration provides a broad overview of the field as well as the practical application of planning methods. Current urban transport systems are examined in the context of environmental, energy, safety, equity, financial, and health impacts. Particular focus is placed on public transit planning, nonmotorized modes such as walking and bicycling, international perspectives and issues, and the coordination of land use and transportation planning. Students must take two of the three core courses, and at least one of the recommended courses or another core course. Four transport courses in total must be taken for the concentration. A graduate planning studio with a transport focus or component is strongly recommended. Students interested in the Graduate Certificate in Transportation Studies must complete five courses, including at least one transportation course in the School of Engineering (courses listed below as 16:180).
