About the School

History

Located in the heart of the Camden Waterfront at the foot of the Ben Franklin Bridge, just across the Delaware River from Philadelphia, Rutgers University-Camden is an institution with an international reputation for research, teaching, and service. Highly regarded for the scholarly accomplishments of its faculty and students, and treasured for its community leadership, Rutgers-Camden plays a unique role as the most prominent institution of higher education in southern New Jersey.

Founded in the 1920s, Rutgers University-Camden began as the South Jersey Law School and the College of South Jersey. In 1950, the two schools became the Camden campus when it merged with Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey.

In 1988, the growing demand for business offerings led to the founding of the School of Business-Camden, the first business school in southern New Jersey to earn prestigious accreditation from the AACSB International. Today, the School of Business-Camden is a premier institution for undergraduate and graduate studies.

The School of Business is highly valued as a school of choice, a business community resource, and a provider of top-quality business training and executive education. The school offers, through its Executive Education unit, professional certification programs in a variety of business disciplines as well as customized individual and corporate training programs both online and on-site. In addition, the school hosts the Small Business Development Center (SBDC) for the tri-county area. The School of Business and the SBDC work closely on many projects and offerings that benefit entrepreneurial and family-run businesses in communities throughout South Jersey.

Boasting various degree program options, including: on-campus study in Camden, off-campus study at locations throughout Southern New Jersey, and virtual study though degree programs offered online, Rutgers School of Business-Camden remains a distinguished and sought after choice for higher education. Attributes of the school include:

Global Integration. The learning experience extends far beyond campus borders. The School of Business-Camden is known for its innovative study programs, international faculty, and providing opportunities to participate in international experiences. The international studies program offers intensive one-week study trips as an integral component of 3-credit courses. Participants and professors visit global businesses and government institutions to learn about the management and marketing practices of the region. Recent classes have visited South Africa, Brazil, and South East Asia, among others.

Experiential Learning. Our close proximity to Philadelphia and New York provides opportunities to experience the business world in two of the largest financial centers in the United States. Students will have the opportunity to gain real-world experience through our internship program, which places up to 100 students in small and large businesses, government agencies, and nonprofit organizations.

Build Your Passion. The School of Business-Camden offers a variety of organizations through which students can supplement classroom learning, create professional contacts, and socialize with peers. Participation in these student-run organizations encourages leadership development and provides opportunities for students to build upon their passion outside of the classroom.
